Extra informatie Emergency Mains
Hoort bij het document Technical regulations 2018
The design of your electrical system requires you to install an emergency mains switch. This emergency mains switch must be capable of interrupting the current between the MPPTs and the batteries and simultaneously the current between the batteries and the motor controller. This must be done by pushing the button on the outside of your boat. The button must be a red mushroom type push button.
When you push this button two electrical connections need to be broken simultaneously. To do so you need two contactors (or relays). The first one is to be installed between the MPPTs and the batteries and does not have to be a special one. You can just use a 24V relay as is used in the automotive sector. Any automotive shop will most probably be able to sell you one. The maximum current expected there is in the order of 20 A or a little bit more. So a 30 A relay will be sufficient.
The contactor you need to break the current between the motor controller and the batteries needs to be designed for significantly higher currents. We require you to use a version that can break a current of 100 A or more. If you use a smaller version you will not be able to break the current. The contactor will explode or the contacts inside the contactor will just weld together and the motor will never stop again until the battery is totally drained (and thus ruined).
This type of contactor is not a standard relay you can buy in an automotive shop. To help you here we have tested three contactors that can be bought online:

All three will do the job. However based on our testing we advise the first one (Nagares). This one uses less current (and thus will use less of your valuable solar energy). What you need to be aware of is that these contactors will get very warm during operation. We have measured temperatures above 70 degrees Centigrade. That means that you must mount it in a place where you will not run the risk of touching it.
